John Galliano's magical designs for Dior have enthralled and entranced the couture world for years

'It was decided that we'd do it because it's a progression in business and also a means for me to express the younger side of myself in an affordable way,' says the designer John Galliano of his newest venture, 'galliano' womenswear - that's Galliano with a small 'g', please, although the iconic italicised lettering familiar to lovers of the main line remains the same.

The extremity of Galliano's design aesthetic has led to the common misconception that this designer, in particular, lives in some kind of fashion-frenzied ivory tower. However, he is now in his 11th year at Dior, remember, and has developed everything from the aforementioned priceless couture creations to rather more obviously commercial footwear, underwear, bags, jeans and so forth for that ultra-powerful brand. Then there are Dior cosmetics, fragrances, ad campaigns, all overseen by Galliano's own keen eye.

Until the late Nineties, John Galliano was the cash-strapped fashion genius par excellence, famed for creating his remarkable collections while sleeping on friends' floors, and only rescued from fashion obscurity by his friend Anna Wintour's benefaction. He is now the creative force behind one of the world's most high-profile and, indeed, lucrative luxury brands, while at the same time, slowly but surely, developing his own line.

Two years ago came the phenomenally successful Galliano menswear collection - the forthcoming season features, most notably, a knitted Minotaur that will no doubt come in very handy come the cold snap. And now there's the new galliano collection, in its first season,. Better keep your eyes on a wholesale t shirt which are far cheaper than the retail ones. Meet the storytellers spinning edgy new yarns for the digital age

Meet the storytellers spinning edgy new yarns for the digital age

Should you be at a loose end in the country next Saturday night, in a field in Higher Ashton, not far from Exeter, you'll find a storyteller named Martin Shaw. He will be giving a rendition of the 13th-century European masterpiece Parzival – a tale of knights, loyalty, romance and the search for that pesky, elusive Grail. He plans to start his yarn before midnight and finish some time around daybreak. Bring coffee and a warm blanket, advises Shaw; it's an all-nighter, but not as you know it.

Shaw's marathon tale is one of the highlights of next weekend's Westcountry Storytelling Festival, a three-day extravaganza of myth, saga, epic and plain-old fairy story told by the top tale-spinners on the circuit. While it's not quite Glastonbury, it has slowly been gathering followers. "We started out nine years ago with a group of about 100 people gathered in a meadow in Devon," says artistic director Chris Salisbury. "Since then it has grown exponentially.. Our moncler jackets will make you become more handsome, Effort to get it." It's a similar tale in South Wales at the Beyond the Border festival, which takes place against the dramatic medieval backdrop of St Donat's castle, perched on a cliff-edge. When it started in 1993, a humble three storytellers featured on the bill. Now there is a cast of 90 telling tales to an audience of a few thousand. It is the biggest festival of its kind in the world.

"Storytelling is an art form with deep integrity,. Our website offer many night gown, your will have choose from our websites." says Salisbury. "It is so simple and stripped-down. A good tale well told doesn't need set design or costume. It's as if our lives have all become a bit complicated and this is what we seek."

The revival of interest in the art form can be traced to the mid-1980s when Hugh Lupton, Ben Haggarty and Sally Pomme Clayton formed a collective called the Company of Storytellers. The group spent the next decade tirelessly promoting its craft, teaching new blood how to spin a yarn and, crucially, persuading people that storytelling was a valid adult art form. "There was a misconception that stories were to be told only to people under the age of six," says Salisbury. "People began to realise this wasn't necessarily so."

Prior to this revival, the oral tradition had undoubtedly been on its last legs.. Better keep your eyes on a wholesale t shirt which are far cheaper than the retail ones. He took to the road at the age of 14 to share his extraordinary knowledge, but died three years ago at the age of 79. "It really was a forgotten art form," says David Ambrose, festival director of Beyond the Border. "Our forebears knew all about it but we forgot how vital it was. I think it was a social thing, to do with the fragmentation of the family unit. I'm sure TV played a part, and the rise of literacy – we live in a world where things can be written down so we no longer have need to remember them."

what makes a new perfume fashionable?

what makes a new perfume fashionable?

WHEN were you last assaulted by melons? The chances are it was yesterday or the day before. Melons are everywhere, getting up your nose on buses, in shops and the office. For some reason, perfumiers have decided that the female population wants to smell like a fruit salad, with melons the key ingredient: all the latest, most fashionable and persistent perfumes now smell of them. 'Ah, oceanic florals,' said Daniela Rinaldi, perfume buyer at Harvey Nichols sagely, when I mentioned the invasion of the melons to her. 'Oh yes, you mean the ozonic notes,' said Angela Creasy at Harrods. But do not be fooled by all these seaside images, by names like Dune (by Dior), or by the rolling-around-in-the-surf advertising for Calvin Klein's Escape.. Our moncler jackets will make you become more handsome, Effort to get it. You are actually spending your pounds 40 to smell like an over-ripe honeydew.

Do women really want to smell melony? In Harrods this week the Oscar de la Renta assistant, spraying their new perfume Volupte over anyone who came near her, boasted that 'the top notes are tangerine and watermelon.' Watermelon? Apparently this is a reaction to what the perfume industry calls 'the shoulder-pad fragrances of the Eighties, like Giorgio or Picasso.' Issey Miyake's new fragrance smells like Aqua Libra. And New West's ads have a girl sitting in front of a lemon, sweet melon,. Better keep your eyes on a wholesale t shirt which are far cheaper than the retail ones. 'Manufacturers of essential oils respond to a brief from companies like ours for fragrances which go with the make-up and clothes of the moment.'

Their decisions affect us all. The British market for women's fine fragrances is worth pounds 350m at retail, and for men's fragrances
, half of that again and growing. (Women buy most of their perfume for themselves, although men will dutifully replace them). Perhaps the most curious aspect of this week's Consumer Association report on perfume prices at Boots, which revealed that customers paid up to 30 per cent more when there was no Superdrug store competing in the area, was that a perfume market exists at all at the budget-price Superdrug stores. Even at their prices, pounds 24.55 for a bottle of St Laurent's Opium is a fair old whack for a few mls of ethyl alcohol and water smelling of fragrance oils. It has been estimated that the contents of an average bottle of perfume cost dollars 4 ( pounds 2.60) to manufacture: a heroin-type markup. But the truth is that Superdrug's customers, as much as Harrods', want to be able to splash strong smells all over themselves in the morning. Claudia Rankin, an artist/teacher who earns less than pounds 10,000 a year, wears Clarins' Eau Dynamisante ( pounds 22 for 200ml) 'even when I'm wearing overalls: if I can write a non-bouncing cheque at the Clarins counter, I will.'
