Candidates talk jobs, taxes at forum
With the political season heating up, about 20 candidates for offices from state representative to governor made their pitches Sunday in a steamy room at a 175-year-old church.
About 75 people attended the forum at the Second Baptist Church in Greektown, including Detroiter Michael Reynolds. Sunday's event was a way for Reynolds, 54, to measure the candidates in person.
"These are tough times, and I just want to hear what people are going to do about it," he said. "Jobs, the schools, things have to change if we're ever going to get out of this."
The candidates each received about five minutes to explain their positions and answer questions from the audience. Many candidates seeking state office talked about the need to reach across political aisles and work together.
