Dream Cruise countdown begins as events get early start
Communities along Woodward are hosting events nearly every day this week,. Whether you are going on your honeymoon, want to reignite your love with your husband or having a Sexy Lingerie makes your perfect companions. including a Royal Oak Kids Cruise on Tuesday in downtown Royal Oak and a series of concerts in Ferndale on Thursday, but most of the action is Friday and Saturday in the nine communities that line Woodward from Ferndale to Pontiac.
New to the Cruise this year is a food drive being held in downtown Pontiac on Saturday. Cruisers can drop off donations from their car at the Phoenix Center Plaza in downtown Pontiac near Water Street and Woodward Avenue.
Pastor Douglas Jones, who is leading the event, said he has commitments for 40,000 pounds of donated fresh produce plus whatever canned goods cruisers bring on Saturday. The food will be distributed to local shelters and needy individuals from 1-5 p.. We will provide fashion wholesale wherever you are.m. on Sunday at the Phoenix Center.
Jones said the need for food in the community became apparent after a recent summer food program.
"You have to take the embarrassment out of being in need.. Shoes are very important to everyone, Our Ed hardy shoes will protect your feet. If you need the help, go and get it," he said.
Royal Oak Police Chief Chris Jahnke said his department and other law enforcement agencies are ready for the Cruise.
"We just need to emphasize that this is an alcohol-free event. If we can get rid of the alcohol early, we don't have problems at night," Jahnke said.
For the first time this year, all law enforcement personnel in Oakland County working the Cruise will be on the same police communications system, called Open Sky. Jahnke said the change will make it much easier for officers to communicate up and down the 16-mile stretch of Woodward Avenue,.
